Partnering for Social Responsibility with Yunnan Mountain Handicraft Center

The Yunnan Mountain Handicraft Center is a non-profit, community based organization founded to promote projects that support local cultural heritage, handicrafts and eco-tourism in Deqing Prefecture, Yunnan. The Yunnan Mountain Handicraft Center is located in a Tibetan house in the heart of the historic Old Town in Shangrila, Yunnan. The center pursues projects in handicraft development, preservation of cultural heritage, poverty alleviation and sustainable and ecologically balanced development. Besides supporting local handicrafts, the center also sponsors other income generating activities and provides community services such as beekeeping training, free English training and a community library.

At the Center

At the Center’s Handicraft Shop you can find a wonderful array of local crafts which feature the traditional work of more than 80 local artisans.  The friendly staff and volunteers will show you around and answer any questions you might have about the lifestyle and history of the area’s artistic heritage.  You will also be able to drop into the Center’s Community Library which provides a free book lending service and library program to students, artisans, and visitors.

The YMHC Volunteer Service invites applicants from China, Hong Kong and abroad to come participate in year round programs and help with service based activities.
